A performance based approach is necessary to achieve crucial design goals: to evaluate the ventilation system and strategies in case of fire; to define the timeline of events (emergency plan); to evaluate the egress in different emergency conditions; to evaluate contingency scenarios from the point of view of the integrity of the structural elements and the fire fighters intervention.
